Design
The wind farm infrastructure consists of civil works – such as roads and drainage, wind turbine, met mast foundations and buildings housing electrical switchgear – and electrical works such as equipment at the point of connection (POC), underground cable networks and/or overhead lines forming radial ‘feeder’ circuits to strings of wind turbines, switchgear for protection and disconnection of the feeder circuits.
The design work produces the site layout. This requires a topographical survey to determine ground features and levels affecting construction, a geotechnical survey to determine the ground conditions and design requirements for the foundation at the turbine location and an earthing survey to check the ground resistivity (required to design the electrical earth system). This information is then used to determine the location of the main items, such as the turbine center, the wind turbine transformer and the high-voltage sub-station (if required). Once the locations of the main items are fixed the on-site electrical distribution can be designed and the cable trenches and routes specified.
Installation
With careful planning of all activities to be taken into consideration, we coordinate the components delivery, we plan and execute the mechanical and electrical installation. All these actions are being taken with great care for our environment, teams and the equipment being installed whilst keeping in mind that time is a precious resource for us and our customers.
Commissioning, operation and maintenance
Once construction is complete, commissioning will begin. The definition of ‘commissioning’ is not standardized, but generally covers all activities after all components of the wind turbine are installed. Commissioning will usually involve standard tests for the electrical infrastructure as well as the turbine, and inspection of routine civil engineering quality records. Careful testing at this stage is vital if a good quality wind farm is to be delivered and maintained.
We provide installation and safety checks to the lifting equipment according to the original equipment manufactures’ specifications.
We perform planned maintenance activities according to the equipment manufacturers instructions, as well as needed retrofits, hose repairs or replacements and oil change services.
